Steinmetz Park; Hendrickson & Lenox

This park has a great design, but it has been seriously neglected for many years.
Board on bench missing.
Swing missing for at least one season.

This photo demonstrates a common problem with playground apparatus when they are not matted with mulch- standing puddles of water.

Make sure to bring your picnic basket to this park.

An old school slide. It is surprising that the insurance company did not make the City take this down. Steep stairs, short rails, fast metal and a height of 14 feet or so.

Get rid of this junk.
Geodesic domes should be at every playground.
Compare the safety features of this slide to the new one installed in Carrie Street Park.
There should be a working fence between the street and the playground to keep the little ones contained.


Exposed concrete and metal bolts are a safety hazard.
Another boarded up property waiting for an arsonist.
People like to sit on picnic tables when they barbecue.



Broken lampposts do not help.

The nets should be up by now, but the net posts do not even exist. The surface is in good shape.


A fine court



The elephant grass is invading- pushing out the cat-tails, a plant which contains many edible parts.

A great spider.

Carrie Street Park

This park has recently been completed. Overall a very nice design and the apparatus are safe.
Wood chips are throughout the play area.
These spring loaded horses have rubber mats beneath them to cover their anchors.

A high but slow slide. The plastic provides friction and the bumps slow one down. The sides of the slide are twice as high as the old school slides. Stairs rise slowly- perhaps a 45 degree angle- compared to old school slides whose stairs are much steeper- 80 degrees.

This gate has been broken off its hinges.

The court is in good shape. Chain nets would be nice.


Ah graffiti

Something is planned for the area between the playground and the parking lot. A new concrete foundation was poured.
Red water spigot ready for the gardeners.
They had second thoughts about the double fence just prior to completion. The top rails of the fence are laying next to the tree just outside the playground.

Vale Playground

Paint remover needed.
This is a wonderful whimsy.
Dead hanging tree branch very close to play area.
Take note of all the orange stickers.
This sticker reads "Install and maintain top of recommended surfacing to this mark

What ever was at the end of this hook is gone.
The distance of the playground barrier to the base of the slide is about 10 feet, this is adequate.
Please paint me. Notice the orange stickers installed by the manufacturer. This playground needs 5 inches of mulch.

Potential falls could be from 10 feet up, recommended surfacing levels should be adhered to.
