Yates Village Courts

This is the only play area for kids on the grounds of Yates Village, a government housing project for people with low incomes. This backboard is missing a hoop.
This non-functional court on public property is segregated.

Some construction work is underway; no apparent plans for the kids.

Hillside Elementary, 12309

This is a very large and new playground at an elementary school in the Niskayuna school district. All children are welcome to play on it
A few of the old school apparatus still exist. There are not any hard surfaces for kids to fall on.

The barrier around these swings is far enough away that one can jump of the swing and not worry about hitting it. Compare this to the Riverside playground swings- ankle breakers- .
The entire area is covered with a thick layer of wood chips.
The corkscrew slide is very high, but the top is closed in and the sides of the slide are not short.

The manufacturer of this playground has received quite a few orders in Schenectady County. They have very fun designs and are conscientious of kids safety.
This is a next generation teeter totter, its like you are riding a giant snake.
Chimes that teach the musical scale.

If one were to fall through this gap, the ground is close to 15 feet away. Even with the mulch, this seems a bit too high.

I would place an extra 6 inches of mulch under all of the high obstacles on this playground.

This slide looks like great fun, but it is not that fast. The manufacturer uses high friction plastic.

Hamilton Hill Branch Library & Carver Center

This is a small playground attached to the public library and the Carver Center. It is only accessible through the building because it is fenced off from the street. The play apparatus are modern and safe, and the area is covered with mulch. This minimizes injuries from falls. The concrete lip at the edge of the play area could be an impediment to running kids.

Elmer Avenue Elementary

This is a nice school yard to play in. It is accessible to kids when school is not in session, and the equipment is modern and the surface is safe. Yard also contains a small baseball and soccer field.

Yates Elementary School Playground; Salina & VanVranken

A fine playground. Varied apparatus to play on and a safe surface to fall on.

!WARNING: INSTALLATION OVER A HARD SURFACE SUCH AS CONCRETE, ASPHALT, OR PACKED EARTH MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH FROM FALLS.

sound advice- mulch could use another layer

a mulch landing is a safe landing

America is a wonderful island

Notice the four eye hooks on the yellow posts- they used to hold a bridge
a bridge connecting these apparatus
